Bulldog will face Dragons in NE north-south collision

Bulldog baseball players hammered out two wins Tuesday on a roadtrip to Northwest Christian to finish a string of five wins over seven days. The Bulldogs downed the Crusaders 14-2 in the first game, and 13-0 in the second game. Both were shut down after five innings on the 10-run lead rule.

The run of five wins over the week left the Bulldogs at 16-1 in the season, and they will hit the road again Friday to play St. George’s for the last NE round of the season. The game will match the winners of NE South and the NE North.

As the south side champions, Colfax will host the first round of the district playoffs Tuesday.

In the opener at NWC, Cal Gregory allowed six hits for his fifth win of the year. The Bulldogs totaled seven hits with Kyle Appel rapping a triple and a double to sustain a big week with the bat.

Kieron Anderson singled and doubles, Gregory tripled and Parker Huber doubled.

Freshman Layne Gingerich, making his second start, allowed three hits for the 13-0 shutout in the second game,

Colfax totaled 13 hits with Appel bagging two double and two singles for seven raps for the trip. Nate Akesson paired doubles; Gregory singled and tripled, and Anderson and Gingerich each had a double and single.

Saturday Colfax dropped the LRS Broncos twice at McDonald Park to finish with an 8-0 sweep of the south side of the NE.

Colfax scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Saturday to shut down the first game after five innings.

Colfax totaled 10 hits in the first game with Huber and Akesson each rapping a double and a single.

Colfax pitcher Kelan Becker allowed five hits in getting his second win of the season.

Colfax took the second game 9-1 with LRS its their lone run in the sixth inning. Huber took the win, and Kyle Appel relieved him in the fourth inning.

Colfax totaled 12 hits, with Appel clubbing a homer and two singles. Gregory had four singles and Huber had three raps.

Gingerich pitched a 6-0 shutout in his first varsity start on the mound Wednesday when Colfax hosted Pomeroy at McDonald Park. It was the first game of the season at McDonald.

Gingerich took the win with 76 pitches. He struck out five Pirate batters and allowed six hits. Pomeroy loaded up the bases in the last inning, but the threat ended with a fly out.

Colfax had just five hits in the game, but they plugged them in at the right spots. Pomeroy coach Dave Boyer used three pitchers against the Bulldogs.

Huber had two doubles for Colfax, and Anderson had two hits.

The Pirates made six errors in the non-league game.
