Bulldogs break 12-12 tie in 10th to defeat 'hounds

Colfax softball players Tuesday scored one run in the top of the 10th inning to break a 12-12 tie for a win in their season opener Tuesday at Pullman. The run decided a game in which the Bulldogs stacked a 12-1 lead after the top of sixth and Pullman scored 10 in the bottom of the sixth and tied it at 12-12 with one more run in the bottom of the seventh.

The two teams failed to score over two extra innings, but Colfax scored the tie-breaker in the 10th and kept Pullman from scoring in the bottom of the frame.

Colfax pitcher Abbie Miller allowed just six hits, walked 10 and struck out six for the win.

Pullman started Kyle Yoshikawa who walked eight but allowed zero hits. She was pulled in the fourth inning when Colfax stacked five runs.

Pullman reliever Kelsey Nestegaard allowed seven hits and walked five in finishing out the10-inning game.

Colfax catcher Chelsea Becker homered and singled to lead the Colfax seven-hit offense, and Miller helped her own cause with three singles. Desi Brown and Helina Hahn had the other two Colfax hits.

The softball team is slated to travel to Reardan today to make up a doubleheader which was rained out Saturday.
