Wrestlers wrap season with CHS pizza feed, awards

Five seniors wrapped up their wrestling careers at a team pizza feed Tuesday in the Colfax High School cafeteria. Coach Dennis Gransbery noted the team this year totaled 19 wrestlers with Garfield/Palouse and St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse wrestlers in the mix. All team members earned a letter which required five match wins during the campaign.

The team sent seven wrestlers to state Mat Classic in the Tacoma Dome where they placed fifth among 43 teams in the all-B division. Gransbery noted they would have ranked third in the finals if the Gar/Pal and SJE team points were combined with Colfax.

Seniors honored were Chris Jones, Dane Hall, Leo Huels, Travis Knauf and Ben Ahmann.

St. John’s Caden Noha topped the campaign with a total of 50 matches, and Dane Hall booked the best record with a 36-8 in the 170 class.

Junior Augie Allenbach finished with the most pins for the year with 31 including four at state. Chris Jones totaled 48 takedowns.

Coach Gransbery and assistant Cliff Knauf presented awards in the order of weight class competition.
