Colfax girls face Asotin in NE league round today

Josie Riebold (22) and Carmen Gfeller put the squeeze on Bronco Julia Klein in Saturday's game.

Colfax, which holds the top ticket from the NE south side, will play Asotin today in the quarter-final round of the NE playoffs at 6:30 p.m. in the West Valley Field House. Asotin advanced to face Colfax after they edged Kettle Falls by a point, 44-43, on the first round of the playoffs Tuesday.

Colfax today will be playing a team they hammered 57-10 in the league round here Friday night.

The Colfax-Asotin game today will be opposite the game between St. George’s and Lind/Ritzville/Sprague. The winners will collide in the league semi-final round next Tuesday.

St. Gerorge’s is the number-two team from the north side of the league. Top team from the north side is Davenport, a team which stopped the Colfax win streak early in the season.

Reardan, which dropped Wilbur/Creston in the first round, will play Davenport today. The other round today will feature Liberty and Northwest Christian, a 54-37 winner over Tekoa/Rosalia in the first round.

The Bulldog girls blasted through their last two league games with big wins Friday and Saturday on the home court. They held Asotin to 10 points on the way to a 57-10 win Friday, and they stacked up a 30-point win, 53-23, in the last home game Saturday night against the LRS Broncos.

Both games saw the Bulldogs again log a lot of court time for their reserve players, a factor which could pay off during the bid to get back to the state tournament via the playoffs.

Against Asotin the Bulldogs had a 29-8 lead at the half. They actually held the Panthers scoreless in the last quarter.

Adrienne Washington topped the Asotin scorers here Friday with six points. Washington also led Asotin in Tuesday’s playoff round at West Valley with 17 points.

Asotin Friday had 34 turnovers on the Colfax court. Saturday in the last home game, the Bulldogs cooked a 15-3 lead over the Bronco girls in the first quarter with Coach Corey Baerlocher starting an all senior lineup on senior night.

The Broncos also had trouble with the Colfax defense and allowed 30 turnovers Saturday

Five Bulldog girls honored for senior night were Piper Cai, Greta Geier, Carmen Gfeller, Abbie Miller and Josie Riebold.
