Colfax girls crank up for final league run

Greta Geier pulls down a rebound for Colfax Friday while Shyah Antoine blocks out.

Colfax Coach Corey Baerlocher played the roster Friday night when the Bulldog girls hosted a winless Springdale team. Coach Mark Edwards and the Chargers arrived with eight players on the varsity roster and two on the injury list.

The Bulldogs, who had just one game last weekend, played with starters for the first half, but turned the game over to the reserves in the second half.

Springdale didn’t score until the third quarter when sophomore Tamieka Valentine hit the first of her three buckets.

The 45-12 win wrapped up the Colfax run against teams on the north side of the league. The Bulldogs will start the second round against south side teams Friday at Reardan and play at home against Tekoa/Rosalia.

Like the Bulldog boys, Colfax girls came out of the first round of south side play 5-0 before being stopped by Davenport on the Gorillas’ court in the last league game before Christmas. The north side Gorillas posted a 48-40 win to stop the early season win string by the Bulldogs.

Reardan will host the Bulldogs Friday after being hammered by St. George’s and Northwest Christian last weekend. They are now 5-9 after losing to NWC 68-28 in the Saturday round.

The Timberwolves have a 1-12 mark after being hammered by St. George’s in the Saturday round.
