1B Boys: Pomeroy owns league early

Southeast 1B league games began with a weekend of early matchups and Pomeroy showed its favored status. Running Colton by 25 points and dismissing St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse, the Pirates have set the tone so far. For Whitman County teams, Garfield/Palouse beat Oakesdale by five points and blew out a young Waitsburg team.

Gar/Pal will play at Colton Friday at 7:30 p.m. Oakesdale plays at St. John, also at 7:30 p.m.

Garfield/Palouse 62, Waitsburg 18

Sanderson and Anderson, Caden and Tanner, led the Vikings (3-2, 2-0) with a combined 23 points in a runaway win at Waitsburg Dec. 9. Ely Hawkins added nine points and Daniel Orfe scored eight.

Parker Druffel led the Wildcats (0-3, 0-2) with 19 points at home Dec. 9 in a Southeast 1B loss to the Indians (3-1, 2-0). Reece Chadwick added 10 points and Kian Ankerson and Matt Wolf both scored eight.

Pomeroy 65, St. John/Endicott/ Lacrosse 32

Jacob Tewalt and Oscar Morfin totaled 16 points each for the Pirates (5-0, 2-0) in a game at St. John Dec. 9 which Pomeroy lead by 21 in the first quarter. Devon Caruso added 10 points and Ryan Wolf scored nine.

Dustin Fox led the Eagles with 17 points while Ty Harder and Griffin Parrish each scored five.

Pomeroy 65

Colton 40

Pirates seized the Colton gym Dec. 8 with a 26-0 lead in the first quarter.

Pomeroy then led by 37 points after the third. Devon Caruso scored 22 points in the game while Jacob Tewalt had 14 and Oscar Morfin 11.

Parker Druffel led Colton (0-3) scorers with 21 points.

Garfield/Palouse 60

After trailing by 12 in the first half, Gar/Pal came out in the third quarter and corrected the situation.

Ely Hawkins scored 16 points and corraled 17 rebounds in the game while freshman point guard Austin Jones had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Blake Jones added nine points and Tanner Anderson 7.

For Oakesdale, Jacob Himes scored 15 points, Kieron Anders had 13, Wesley Castanon 10 and Matt Hockett 9.
