Colfax splits doubleheaders

Tekoa-Rosalia’s Payson Griner (from Garfield/Palouse) scores against Liberty April 15.

Colfax catcher Chelsea Becker and Avery McFarling of Tekoa/Rosalia react after colliding at the plate Tuesday in the second game as Timberwolves players look on.

Colfax and Tekoa/Rosalia softball teams Tuesday battled in the first game of a twin bill at Colfax with the Bulldogs scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie and post a 10-8 win.

In the second game, Colfax exploded for 19 hits and finished with an 18-8 win in a game which was shut down after five innings.

The two wins over the T-wolves marked a bounce back for the Colfax team which sustained two losses to the Broncos Friday in a doubleheader at Ritzville.

Colfax now stands at 6-2 in the NE-south standings with Reardan, the last south side foe, slated to play at McDonald Park Saturday.

In the first game Tuesday, Colfax pitcher Abbie Miller allowed eight hits and struck out five TR batters over the first four innings. Maddy Shrope put the lid down on the TR bats with no-hit pitching over the last three frames.

Ella Gregory allowed 12 hits and walked just three Bulldog batters for Tekoa/Rosalia.

The league neighbors broke out for four runs in the top of the fourth inning to post an 8-5 lead, but the Bulldogs scored one in the bottom of the fourth and two more in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take the win.

Miller led the Colfax bats in the first game with a pair of doubles and a single, and Cheyanne Stokes rapped three singles.

Shrope returned to the pitching circle for Colfax to start the second game and allowed TR just four hits over the first four innings. Lindsey Lindgren finished for Colfax and survived with the win after walking five and allowing four hits.

Colfax took a 17-4 lead into the fifth inning, but the T-wolves scored four runs to stave off an early shutdown.

Colfax managed to retrieve the 10-run gap by scoring one in the bottom of the fifth after Gregory, TR reliever, put them in a two-out hole.

At Ritzville Friday, Colfax softball players were derailed by the LRS girls 12-11 and 19-7 in the south side collision.

The double win by the Broncos ended the Colfax league string of six wins in the south side campaign.

In the first game, Colfax scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 9-9 tie, but the Broncos came back to score three in the bottom of the last inning.

In the second game, the hosts scored eight runs in the first inning, and that turned out to be all they would have needed on the way to a 19-7 win. The Broncos had 16 hits in the closer, and the Bulldogs managed just five hits.
