With a 14-3 win over Waitsburg Tuesday night, the Colton softball team is now 6-2 (1-1 league), following a split doubleheader against Orofino April 7.

At home against Waitsburg, freshman Lydia Smith went 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs while Emily Schultheis was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

Against Orofino, Emily Schultheis pitched game one, going all seven innings in a 6-3 loss.

On the mound, Schultheis allowed seven hits and nine walks with three strikeotus.

“Errors were what the problem was in that game,” said Wildcats coach Brad Nilson.

The team had six errors.

“We just need to get out in the dirt,” said Nilson of the trouble of practicing in the gym during rainy days.

Kendyl Druffel led the team at the plate in game one, going 2-for-3 while Abby Kelly went 2-for-2.

In the second game, Colton tore through Orofino for 18 hits in a 17-7 win.

Leading hitters were Emily Schultheis, 4-for-5, Jordyn Moerhle and Druffel, both 3-for-5, and Daylinn Smith and Maggie Pluid, both 2-for-4.

The team will play next at Waitsburg in a doubleheader Saturday.

“It's still a learning year,” Nilson said. “We're trying to find ourselves.”
