Colfax faces Springdale in playoffs

Colfax junior guard Jaydon Soncarty penetrates in the first half Monday night in a rescheduled win over Reardan.

Colfax sophomore point guard Carson Cloaninger slips a pass by Reardan defenders Monday in Colfax.

Colfax boys today will travel to West Valley to play Springdale in the second round of the NE playoffs. As the number-two team out of the NE south, Colfax earned a bye for the Tuesday launch of the long district show and waited to see what team emerged from the round between third and fourth place teams.

Springdale, number-three finisher on the north side, fought off a charge by the LRS Broncos for a 52-51 edge in the Tuesday opener and will face the Bulldogs in the second round.

Colfax defeated Springdale 59-51 in the lone matchup between the two clubs in the league run.

Colfax and Liberty finished up with matching 13-3 records on the south side of the NE, but the Lancers earned the top spot under the points rating system with much of the difference coming off Liberty's strong win over Colfax on the Lancers' court last week.

The long run of district playoffs is a double elimination format, but a win in tonight's game would advance the Bulldogs to the semifinal round next week.

Top team on the playoff grid is the NWC Crusaders which finished out with a 16-0 win string.

The 13-3 marks by Colfax and Liberty put them at second place overall behind the Crusaders.

St. George's is rated number two on the north side at 12-4, and the Chargers finished in the number three slot on the north with a 8-8 record.

Colfax Monday cruised to a 62-39 win over Reardan in a makeup game to finish the 16-game league run. The games marked the last home show for Colfax seniors Danny Robinson, Jared Kneale, Chris Aspenwall and Josh Goebel, who was brought up from the jayvee roster for senior night. Goebel hit a foul shot to make a mark in the varsity scorebook.

Colfax pulled out to a 27-20 lead in the first half and then swamped the Indians with a 21-7 run in the third quarter.

Kneale hit 15 points to lead the Bulldogs on his senior night outing.

Saturday in the second-round match with the Timberwolves at Tekoa, the Bulldogs booked a 68-39 win with Jaydon Soncarty hitting 19 points and Robinson hitting 17.

The Bulldogs stacked a 25-6 edge in the first quarter, but TR erased four points of the lead in the second frame.

Devin Cripe and Mitchell Billings each hit eight to lead the T-wolves. Both hit a pair of threebies for the eight.

Colfax put down the light touch at Tekoa with just nine fouls, and TR only went to the toss line for three shots in the game.
