Local wrestlers to host districts

Colfax and Garfield/Palouse wrestlers, who have marked a season of all road matches, will finally appear at Colfax Saturday when they host the south district tournament. The meet will include wrestlers from the SE 1B schools and the south side of the NE 2B league.

The district rounds are the first step for entry in the state finals, the Mat Classic, scheduled for the Tacoma Dome Feb. 17-18.

Colfax will have eight wrestlers participating, and Gar/Pal will have one.

The team wrapped up its long road season with a league meet Saturday at Pomeroy and a meet Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Davenport. In addition to matches with the Gorillas, the Bulldogs had an opportunity to match up with wrestlers from Central Valley who made a stop on the Davenport mats.

Pomeroy and Waitsburg are expected to send entrants to the district event here Saturday along with the NE's Reardan, Lind/Ritzville/Sprague and Liberty.

Top four finishers Saturday from the meet at Colfax will advance to the regional meet next week at Northwest Christian.

The north side of district action will include schools in the north NE loop and 1B mat teams from the north side.

At Colfax Saturday, the Little Guy Wrestling team will serve breakfast starting at 7 a.m. Proceeds will go toward buying a new wrestling mat for the high school. Acquiring a new mat is expected to increase chances for more matches at Colfax in the future.

Breakfast admission will be $6 or $20 for a family of four or more.

106-Nolan Burrill pinned Tristan Reagan from LRS and beat Tristan Perryman from Reardan 6-4.

113-Garrett Phillips lost to Ethan Hull of Reardan by pin and beat Karson Krause of Pomeroy by injury default in the first round.

138-Chris Jones lost to Caleb Cole of Reardan 2-7 and beat David Just of Waitsburg 8-3.

138-Nate Barney was pinned by Just of Waitsburg and Dylan Lane of LRS.

145-Ben Ahmann was pinned by Connor Houlihan of Reardan and pinned Sam Nelson of Liberty.
