Library starts ‘food for fines’

The 17th annual food for fines drive will be Feb. 1 through Feb. 28 at all 14 library branches of Whitman County Library. This drive allows library users to donate nonperishable food and toiletry items at any branch of the library and waive up to $10 in outstanding library fines. Those who do not face outstanding fines are encouraged to also make contributions.

All donated items will be given to the food bank and used in the community where they were collected.

Last year, the library collected close to $900 worth of nonperishable food and toiletry items.

Many food bank clients face large heating bills, and the drive provides something extra in their grocery box.
