Plowing Bee at Palouse Empire Fairgrounds this weekend

PALOUSE- The Palouse Empire Threshing Association is hosting its annual Plowing Bee this weekend at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday April 20-21, in the field across from the Palouse Empire Fairgrounds on state Highway 26, west of Colfax.

Co-Organizer Eric Reiber said that they will be doing the preparation of the ground and seeding. "September will be the threshing bee when we harvest what we plant this week," Reiber said.

Reiber said that the team will be in the field and functional at about 10 a.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

There will be a no cost lunch mid-day, Reiber said, adding that will be provided by the Palouse Lion's Club this year.

"We'd love to have spectators," Reiber said, adding that they hope people come out and see it. "It's a great chance for people to relive the past, learn history about this region."

Reiber added that the work will be done with horse teams and that there will be plowing, harrowing, fertilizing and seeding.

Reiber said last year's plowing bee had a fair amount of spectators and teamsters. "We got the crop planted and it was a success," he said.
