Lila L. Watson

Lila L. Watson, 80, former longtime resident of Elberton, died Jan. 23, 2017, at Avalon Care Center in Pullman. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, at Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse with the Rev. Don Moore officiating. Burial will be at the Garfield Cemetery at a later date.

Born on Aug. 25, 1936, in American Falls, Idaho, to Paul and Ione Barton Abbott, she grew up in southeastern Idaho and completed school through the eighth grade when her father was killed unexpectedly in a railroad accident. Lila left school to care for her mother and younger siblings.

She married James E. Watson in Rexburg, Idaho, June 8, 1958, and they moved to Elberton in 1963 where they lived until 2000 when they sold their home and began the snowbird life in their motorhome.

They spent the summers in Elberton and the winters in southern California and Arizona. She worked as a cook at the Wheel Inn in Steptoe for many years and also sorted potatoes for Ron Johnson at the Spud Shack in Farmington.

Mr. Watson died in 2003, and Lila settled in Steptoe and later in Colfax before her health required she move to Avalon Care Center in Pullman.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking and raising animals for butchering. She also enjoyed crocheting, spending time outdoors, fishing and camping. She was an excellent cook and made everything from scratch, including breads and pastries. She loved her dogs, including her Dachshund “Trucker.”

Surviving are her brother, Dewey Abbott, Bremerton; children Mike Watson (Sherry) of Colfax, Paula Ames (Charles) of Longmont, Colo., and Kelly Morrical (Keith) of Marysville; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shriner's Children's Hospital, Box 2472, Spokane, 99210. Online condolences: http://www.kramercares.com
