PEGGY BENSON

A memorial service for Peggy Benson, 89, longtime Potlatch, Idaho, area resident, was Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016, at the Grace Community Church (formerly the Presbyterian-Lutheran Parish) in Potlatch. The Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiated.

Mrs. Benson died at Purity Adult Family Home in Pullman Nov. 30, 2016.

Born Jan. 19, 1927, in Potlatch to John (Dick) and Ella Mae (Hardin) Benge, she grew up in the Princeton area and attended the Hatter Creek Country School. She attended high school at Potlatch and graduated there in 1945.

She married Herman Schott in January of 1946, and the couple made their home at the family farm in Princeton. They lived in Montana for three years and in Alaska where she worked as the camp cook for seven years. She also drove school buses for nearly 20 years in the Potlatch area. She was a 4H leader for many years.

Mr. Schott died in 1983.

In 1984, Peggy married Albert Benson, and the couple made their home in Moscow and spent many years traveling the country in their RV and belonged to the Good Sam RV and Eagles RV clubs. They also enjoyed bowling on a league team together. Mr. Benson died in 2006.

Peggy was an avid gardener, and her cinnamon rolls were considered her finest dish.

She is survived by her sons Jim (Vicki) Schott and Keith (Jerri) Schott of Princeton; brother John (Doris) Benge of California, and sister Judy Hansen of Harvard; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her son Mike, and grandson Matt.

EILEEN N. CARTER

A memorial service for Eileen N. Carter, 86, longtime resident of LaCrosse, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the LaCrosse Methodist Church. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. She will be laid to rest in a private family ceremony at the Viola Cemetery.

Mrs. Carter died at her home Dec. 10, 2016.

Born Feb. 23, 1930, in Potlatch, Idaho, to Lloyd and Mae Hanson Powe, she grew up in Onaway, attended the Onaway grade school and graduated from Potlatch High School. She married Max Carter in 1952 at Moscow, Idaho, and they resided there before moving to LaCrosse in 1966.

A homemaker, she also ran a day care from her home. She was a longtime member of the LaCrosse Methodist Church where she volunteered in many capacities over the years. She was also a member of the LaCrosse Farm Women’s Club. She enjoyed reading and tending to her yard and roses. She was an ardent fan of Gonzaga basketball.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max, in 2012.

Surviving are her children Teena Van Ness of California; Suzanne Mayberry, Libby, Mont .; Norene Kosloski, Grand Coulee; Vickie Edwards of California, and Melvin Carter of LaCrosse; sister, Bertha Nygaard of Potlatch; 14 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the LaCrosse Methodist Church.

EDWARD J. FUCHS

A graveside memorial service for Edward J. Fuchs, 86, was Saturday, Dec. 3, 2016, at the Waverly Cemetery with the Rev. Kathy Lee Kramer officiating. Mr. Fuchs died Nov. 26, 2016, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Born Feb. 19, 1930, in Tekoa to Michael and Emma Reiland Fuchs, he attended St. Joseph’s Academy in Tekoa and then helped his father on the family farm in Tekoa.

He married Martha Osterberg in Coeur d’Alene Sept. 19, 1952. They were later divorced. He lived in Tensed and later in Sanders, Idaho, where he worked for the Benewah County Road Department. In the 1970’s he worked for Pacific Crown Lumber Co. in Plummer where he was a road builder for the logging company. In the late 1990’s, he worked for a landscaping company in Coeur d’Alene. He retired in 2004 and has lived in Hayden for the past three years.

Mr. Fuchs enjoyed fishing and spending time at the Coeur d’Alene Casino.

Survivors include two sons, John Fuchs of Bonney Lake and Kim Fuchs of Tekoa; one daughter, Cathy (Cliff) Curtis of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two brothers, Neil Fuchs of Tekoa and Ted Fuchs of Spokane, and a sister, Rita Moore of Sacramento, Calif. Also surviving is his companion of several years, Beverly Thomas. He was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Lynn Fuchs.

Memorial gifts may be given to the Waverly Cemetery.
