Robert Richards

A celebration of life for Robert E. (Bob) Richards, 74, former school principal at Garfield and Potlatch, will be at the Garfield school cafeteria Sunday, Dec. 4, beginning at 11 a.m. Mr. Richards died peacefully at his home Nov. 24 , 2016.

Born in Butte, Mont., to Earl and Helen Richards, he grew up in Renton where he played in the Babe Ruth World Series.

Once he completed his studies at Western Washington University, he taught in White Salmon where he met his wife of 42 years, Patti.

After earning a masters degree at Pacific Lutheran University, he became a school administrator.

He then served more than a decade at Garfield/Palouse schools before retiring and filling his time with coaching, substitute teaching and refereeing.

He then decided retiring was not for him and went back into service as a principal at Potlatch.

After his second retirement, he and Patti moved to Spokane.

He enjoyed weekends at Badger Lake and card games with family and friends.

Surviving are his wife, Patti; daughter Robin Hughson of Federal Way; son Eric (Nikki) Richards of Kent; son Adam (Meredith) Richards of Spokane; daughter Amber (Dan) Domrese of Spokane; 13 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Memorial donations are suggested to go to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) to help a local child go to camp (www.campstix.org/Donations.aspx) or the national JDRF to help fund research and work toward a cure. (www.jdrf.org).
