Waterways speaker set for Pullman CC
Featured speaker for the Pullman Chamber of Commerce general membership noon luncheon Nov. 8 will be Kristen Meira of Pacific Northwest Waterways Association, advocates for funding for navigation projects including those on the Columbia and Snake rivers. The luncheon will be at Banyan’s on the Ridge. The cost is $15 per person or $12 for chamber members. Please RSVP by Nov. 4 to the chamber office.

To recognize our service members, Steptoe School invites all veterans and residents to the Steptoe School Veterans Day program Nov. 10 at 10:30 a.m., according to Principal Eric Patton
Bank Left Gallery
Bank Left Gallery at Palouse will have a chocolate tasting with lunch and a hint of Christmas Nov. 5 from 12 - 2 p.m. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The chocolate tasting and luncheon is $18 per person.
Clay classes slated at Dahmen
Fall and winter clay classes for adults are being scheduled a la carte at Artisans at the Dahmen Barn in Uniontown. The flexible schedule allows students to choose six classes and six open lab dates between Nov. 13 and Feb. 14. Students may register at any time during that period in advance of their chosen start date. Wheel throwing and hand building pottery techniques are covered in the instruction and participants of any skill level are welcome. More details about the class offering may be found on the event calendar listing at http://www.artisanbarn.org, where online registrations may be made.
Instructors are Debi Robinson-Smith and Kassie Smith. Both are from Moscow and helped set up the clay studio at the Dahmen Barn. Debi is an artist versatile in a wide variety of mediums, but clay is one of her favorites. Kassie has an MFA in ceramic art from the University of Idaho and teaches there.
Festival of Trees returns to Colfax
The Colfax Festival of Trees and public voting will begin at Colfax’s Winter Celebration Thursday, Dec. 1, as part of a line-up that includes a parade, fireworks, Santa, vendors and a variety of family activities.
Public voting on the trees will continue during regular library hours and scheduled events in The Center that include a Community High Tea on Dec. 3 and the Hospice Tree of Lights on Dec. 7.
Ace Hardware, Jennings Elementary, United Methodist Church and the Boy Scouts have already submitted tree entries. Tree setup will be Nov. 29-30, and winners will be announced Dec. 19.
The Festival of Trees is co-sponsored by Colfax Chamber of Commerce and Friends of Whitman County Library. For more information or to enter contact Kristie Kirkpatrick at the library.
Garfield
Senior Meal
Garfield Senior Meal will shift back to its normal schedule for November due to Veterans Day programs scheduled for Nov. 10. Therefore, the November senior meal will be Nov. 17 at noon at the Garfield Legion Grange Hall. On the menu will be ham, baked potato with all the trimmings, green beans, mixed apple salad, roll with butter and apple pie with ice cream for dessert.
Veterans' convoy
in Palouse Sunday
Palouse residents are encouraged to line Bridge Street Sunday at noon for a convoy of motorcyclists accompanying the “Eyes of Freedom: Lima Company Memorial” veterans' exhibit to Lewiston.
Palouse Chamber of Commerce will host a lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Community Center for the motorcycling veterans.
A semi-truck with the exhibit will pass through Moscow and Pullman on its way to the Lewiston Red Lion Hotel where it will be on display Nov. 7-11.
The truck will be parked on Whitman Street for viewing (near the Palouse Community Center) at 11 a.m.
The lunch is a gesture put together by the Palouse Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Palouse Federated Church, The Green Frog, Palouse Caboose and other organizations.
“It's a salute to the veterans,” said Debbie Goetz, chamber president.
The Lima Company Memorial is eight 8x8 foot oil paintings which depict 22 Marines and one Navy Corpsman from the 3rd Battalion, 25th Regiment who were killed in action in Iraq in 2005.
CLUBS AND YOUTH GROUPS
Rosalia Garden Club
Members will meet next Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the home of Roseanna Hester with Mary Ann Bowman as co-hostess. The meeting will start with a 1 p.m. dessert.
Guest speaker will be Robin Adams, proprietor of Robin’s Nest flower shop which is located in Smith’s Country Store at Rosalia. She will show ideas for decorating for fall and Thanksgiving. Guests are welcome but asked to call the day before the meeting.
The club will sponsor the National Garden Clubs and Forest Service Youth Smokey Bear, Woodsy Owl Poster Contest. Children in grades one through five may participate with original drawings of their understanding of wildfire prevention and basic environmental conservation principles. Posters must be finished by Dec. 1, and winners will compete at the state, regional and national levels. The local and district chairman for the contest is Terrie Tucker.
