Obituaries Aug. 25

Marvin Ray, 88, a member of the 1946 class of Colfax High School, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2016, in Colville. A memorial service will be Saturday, Aug. 20, at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Colville.

Mr. Ray retired at Colville where he managed the state Employment Security Office for 25 years. He retired after a 40-year career with the Employment Security Office and also served at Okanogan, Ephrata, Moses Lake and Walla Walla before moving to Colville.

Born Jan. 1, 1928, in Colfax to Banner and Beulah Crumbaker Ray, he lived on a farm which was homesteaded in 1862 by his grandparents. Their family moved into Colfax when he entered high school, and he played on Bulldog football, basketball and track teams. He was a member of the 1946 state championship basketball team.

He was drafted into the US Army in 1950 and served at the Red River Arsenal at Texarkana, Texas, and at Fort Lewis near Tacoma. He was injured in a vehicle accident while in the service and spent much of his enlistment in a military hospital.

He and Ruth Northrup, who he met while attending Eastern Washington State College, were married Aug. 10, 1952. He was a long-time volunteer with the Steven's County Museum and enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and bowling.

Survivors include five children; Vicky Ray, Terry Ray-Smith, Linda Ray, David Ray and Richard Ray; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Floyd and Carl Ray.
