Sophomores Perry, Hockett peg wins at Big Red

Oakesdale girls again uncorked 46 points for a strong finish against big school teams, this time at the Big Red invitational meet at Saturday at Cheney. Wenatchee was the top team at the meet with 104 points. Lind/Ritzville, the only on B team in the top 10, was third with 56 points.

Sophomores Emma Perry and Anne Hockett both took wins in the meet. Perry won the 800 meter run with a 2:32.59 to edge Jenna Janke of North Central, who finished at 2:32.94. Jenna Herzog of Pullman placed third at 2:33.28

The 800 run logged 40 finishers.

Hockett took the 300 hurdles at 49.09 to defeat Brenna Utzman of Pullman who finished a 50.14 in the event. The other top 10 finishers in the event were all from AA or larger schools.

Hockett booked the 300 win after placing second in the 100 hurdles at 17.25.

Callista Chaffin of Mt. Spokane won the 100 at 16.94.

Hockett, Utzman, and Brianna Kosteka of Mt. Spokane were the only top finishers in both hurdle events. The 100 race logged 43 finishers.

Oakesale’s 4 X 200 relay team of Kaela Fisch, Amber Jones, Perry and Hockett placed second with a 1:54.38 behind the 1:53.54 win by LRS with Holly Nygren, Felica Ziemer, Samantha Asmussen and Rachell Schell running legs for the Broncos.

Perry also placed 11th in the high jump a 4-4 behind the 4-8 win posted by Sierra Kiel of LRS.
