Lyman leads Bulldogs over LRS

Jared Kneale goes for two points in the second half against Wyatt Roettiger of LRS Tuesday at Colfax. The Bulldogs’ win left the Colfax-LRS series at 1-1 for the season.

Colfax boys Tuesday night charged in the last quarter and finished with a final ration on defense to pull off a 47-44 win over the LRS Broncos. The Bulldogs, who were led by 17 points from Kenton Lyman, finished with a 47-44 win after holding off the LRS offense for the final two minutes of game.

Tuesday night's win on the home court followed a big win at Reardan last Friday.

Colfax now stands at 7-5 in league play with two more games left.

Tuesday, Colfax and the Broncos, who came to town with an 8-3 mark and placed second in the NE South league, waged a defensive battle in the first half, and it finished with the Broncos holding a slim lead, 19-17, at the break.

Both offenses exploded in the third quarter, and the Broncos added two points to their lead.

Colfax notched it up in the last quarter with Jared Kneale hitting a bucket for a one-point Colfax lead at 43-42. Kneale hit again under the bucket on a big assist from Cal Gregory, who also potted a three-point shot earlier from the corner.

Bronco senior guard Jacob Saetre, who led all scorers with 19, hit a bucket with 2:44 left, and that turned out to be the last score for the guests.

Lyman finished his scoring night with a bucket at 2:04 for the final 47-44 score. His last big move was a steal to end an LRS chance with less than 16 seconds left.

The Broncos had two possessions in the last minute, but they could not get the three-point shot they needed to come back. It ended with Saetre making a desperation shot from the half court corner.

Friday, Colfax boys topped Reardan 57-33 in a runaway game to bump their overall league mark to 6-5. Danny Robinson finished with 15 points for Colfax, and Jared Kneale hit nine. The Bulldogs rolled up 18 points at the start of the game against a Reardan team which has booked just one league win on the season.

Colfax advanced the lead more than 20 points in the last two minutes at 54-31. Kneale, who had a strong night in the paint, booked three blocks during the strong finish.

Jordan Rohweder and Wyatt Thurman led the host Indians with 10 points in the Friday night league game.

On Jan. 20, Bulldog boys sustained a 53-69 loss to league-leading Liberty. The Bulldog boys at the start of last week were aiming at facing an undefeated 14-0 Liberty boys team, but the Lancers were derailed last Tuesday night 57-49 by Northwest Christian. Liberty remains on top of the SE league race with an 11-1 mark. Northwest Christian now tops the north side and the NE at 12-0.

Liberty's Chase Burnham, who went to the bench in the first half with a four-foul load, still led all scorers with 15 Wednesday. Robinson topped Colfax with 11 points, and Lyman hit 10.
