County 1B girls: Colton girls outlast Touchet, lead Southeast 1B

With a close win at Touchet Saturday night, the Colton girls hold first place in league with a 10-0 record. Touchet holds second at 8-2 while Pomeroy's 6-4 puts them in third place. Liberty Christian sits at fourth place at 5-5 followed by Oakesdale and Garfield/Palouse, both at 4-6, and St. John/Endicott at 3-7.

The Southeast 1B district tournament will begin Feb. 10 with first-round games played at home gyms followed by semifinals, championship and second-place games at Walla Walla Community College Feb. 19-20.

Colton 58,

Touchet 55

A final shot from half-court by Cierra Jo McKeown would have tied the game, but it glanced off the backboard. Colton (15-1, 10-0) survived, beating the Indians 58-55 at Touchet Saturday.

The Wildcats trailed 14-2 at the start before storming back to lead 29-26 at half time.

The game remained close, and Touchet hit a three-pointer with six seconds left to cut Colton's lead to three.

On the ensuing possession, Colton missed the front end of a one-and-one, allowing for McKeown's last shot.

Zoe Moser led the Wildcats with 21 points in the game, while Rachel Meyer had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Meghan Devorak scored 14.

McKeown led the Indians (11-3, 8-2) with 31 points.

Garfield/Palouse 49, Pomeroy 45

After losing at Pomeroy Jan. 9, 49-45, the Vikings beat Pomeroy by the same score in Palouse last Friday night. Payson Griner led Garfield/Palouse with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Keely Burnes led all scorers with 15 points. Sydney Smith led the Pirates with 14 points.

Oakesdale 59, St. John/Endicott 48

Anne Hockett scored 14 points and pulled in nine rebounds as the Nighthawks (9-7, 4-6) used an 18-9 third quarter run to beat the Eagles (7-9, 3-7) in St. John. Abby Glorfield led St. John/Endicott with 19 points.

Garfield/Palouse 45, Liberty Christian 42

Burnes' 15 points and five assists led Gar/Pal, while Katie Arrasmith added 14 points and nine rebounds as the Vikings (8-8, 4-6) beat the Patriots in Richland last Saturday.

Maddie Godwin scored 22 points to lead Liberty Christian.

Pomeroy 59, LaCrosse/Washtucna/ Kahlotus 2

Sydney Smith led Pomeroy with 15 points, and Kacey Halbert added 14 as the Pirates took the home game over the Tigercats.

Colton 76, St. John/Endicott 41

Freshman guard Dakota Patchen scored 18 points off of five three-pointers, while Zoe Moser and MaryAnn Jacobs added 16 points each as the Wildcats (14-1, 9-0) took down S.J.E. (7-8, 3-6) last Friday.

Touchet 72, LaCrosse/Washtucna/ Kahlotus 22

McKeown led three players in double figures with 25 points last Friday at LaCrosse in a route of the Tigercats (3-11, 1-9). Jazzmyn Gordon had 10 rebounds for L.W.K.

Liberty Christian 43, Oakesdale 36

Godwin scored 16 points for the Patriots as they got past the Nighthawks (8-7, 3-6) at Oakesdale last Friday. Lindsey Lindgren led the Nighthawks with 12 points, and Logan Reed scored 11.
