All Colfax golfers collect state tickets

All Colfax golfers advanced to state with top-11 finishes Tuesday in the second round of NE qualification at Dominion Meadows in Colville. Colfax senior Hunter Weitze remained in front of the pack with a 150 total for the two rounds. Weitze led last week with a 73 in the first round at Deer Park.

The Colville course proved to be tougher for most of the golfers for the second round of the district qualifications.

Palmer Gulke, who was three strokes back of Weitze in the first round, gained two strokes Tuesday at Colville but still finished one stroke back of Weitze at a 151 total.

Chance Weitze of the Bulldogs placed third at 158, and Kasey Johnson of Colfax tied Sawyer Spackman of St. George’s for fourth place with a 160. Augie Allenbach and Cody Gronning tied for seventh place with 172. Bennett Gray made the cut with a 10th place finish at 174.

Kylie Gronning of Colfax made the state cut with a 196 to tie for eighth place.

Alicia Johnson of Wilbur/Creston, who had a 13-stroke lead on the girls’ side with a 77 last week at Deer Park, finished on top with a 155 combo score after the Colville round Tuesday.

Johnson finished 21 strokes ahead of Shaylee Felker of ACH who finished at 176. Johnson’s score was third high overall for the two-day action.

Michaela Tee of Tekoa/Rosalia, who qualified for the second round with a 103, booked a 113 on the tougher Dominion course Tuesday to finish at 216.

Cutoff for the top 11 for the girls was 209.

The state golf round is booked next Wednesday and Thursday at the Columbia Point course in Richland.

Hunter Weitze last year placed sixth at state with a 167 and Johnson placed 17th with a 176. Gronning played the first day at state.

The scores by Weitze and Johnson last year netted Colfax a third place team finish behind the St. George’s team which was led by Spackman last year.

Spackman topped the Bs last year with a 161.
