Garfield-Palouse finishes 12-8 year

Quentin Neumann of the Vikings attempts to beat the ball to third base in the first game Saturday at Garfield. Touchet third baseman Jackson Elsasser puts the tag down.

The Garfield-Palouse baseball season ended Saturday with a 12-8 record (5-5 league).

Playing at home for doubleheader sweep of Touchet, the Vikings nonetheless will play no more, without getting the help elsewhere they would have needed to make the playoffs.

In the opening game against Touchet, Gar-Pal delivered a seven-run rally to take the lead on a base hit from senior Gabe Cocking. The final score was 12-11.

In the second game, Gar-Pal opened a big lead in the first inning before Cole Sanderson hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.

Winning 8-6, Sanderson finished the day with six RBIs while Hunter Woltering and Mason bates each had three RBIs in the first game.

The season completes the careers of four Gar-Pal seniors: Sanderson, Woltering, Cocking and Kaleb Schaub.

“It was a week or two too short,” said coach Jim Stewart. “Overall, it was a good season but we didn’t finish where we wanted.”
