DeSales hurler ends Colfax streak

Colfax sustained its first loss of the season Monday when they collided with DeSales in the first round of state baseball playoffs at Medical Lake. The Bulldogs bounded back to defeat Wilbur/Creston and place third in the all-day seeding round.

Colfax will play next at Central Valley May 23 in the 16 team round of the playoffs.

Four teams will be at CV, and the winner of both rounds will advance to the the state final four.

Colfax in the first game Monday sustained a 3-6 loss to Irish after booking one hit off Irish starter Cam Richmond. The Bulldogs scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the last inning after Richmond lost some of the steam off of his fastball.

The loss ended the Bulldog win string at 22 games. Jeff Daivies had the lone hit in the first game.

The Irish tagged Colfax starter Garrett Burke for seven hits.

In the 12-2 win over Wilbur/Creston in the second game, Danny Robinson threw a five-hitter. The Bulldogs stacked a 10-2 lead with five runs in the bottom of the third inning. They scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, and that was enough to close the game down in the middle of the fifth inning.

Colfax totaled 10 hits off Wildcat pitcher Colton Magers. Asotin, which topped the Wildcats 12-4 in the first game at Medical Lake, dropped DeSales 4-2 in the game for the number-one spot in the regional round.
