Colfax softball team drops Scotties twice

Colfax softball team, top finisher in the NE league race, was on the sidelines Tuesday when six other teams in the NE waged the first rounds of the district playoffs, the first step of the state eliminations.

Northwest Christian, the number-two NE finisher, was also on the sidelines. Both league leaders will get into the final rounds next Tuesday at the Merkel softball fields in North Spokane.

Colfax defeated Freeman 18-8 and 16-6 in non-league games May 5 for the lone competition they will see until May 19. The two non-league wins over the A division Scotties advanced the Colfax season record to 19-1.

Erica Eng pitched both wins. She allowed the Scotties eight hits in the first game and 10 hits in the second game.

Colfax had 12 hits in the first game and 14 in the second game.

Kori Goodwin homered in the first game, and Sarah Appel tripled. Appel homered in the second game, and Goodwin tripled.
