Colfax girls win seventh NE track title

Colfax girls Tuesday rolled up their seventh straight NE district track title at the Ritzville track. The Bulldogs rolled out 109 points to edge the LRS Broncos with eight points to spare.

LRS had pegged wins over Colfax in earlier league rounds, but Colfax nudged them last week in a meet here. Both teams were a full force Tuesday for the NE collision for the NE meet.

Coach Jason Cooper noted the team has improved during the year. He said he also picked up some points by moving some of the competitors to different events where they could pick up points.

Scout Cai set a meet record and a personal best by clearing 11-3 to win the pole vault. Her prior top mark was an 11-0.

Scout also won the shot put with a 32-2.25 toss, and placed second in the high jump with a 5-0. Olivia Packets of Tekoa/Oakesdale had the top leap of the day with a 5-2.

The Bulldog 4 X 400 team also set an NE meet record with as 4:16 clocking with Sarah Kraut, Piper Cai, Parker Warwick and Olivia Mellor.

Josh Brown again took the discus with a 151-5, short of his best toss of the year.

Eli Richardson of Tekoa/Rosalia won the 200 with a 22.98 clocking to edge Sam Schafer of Odessa/Harrington by .08. The two reversed in the 100 with Schafer clocking 11.23 to edge Richardson by .09.

Richardson also edged Brown to win the shot put with a 46-8.75.

Colfax boys placed fourth with a 51.5 behind the 98 point win posted by St. George’s

The five top finishers Tuesday now advance to the regional round where the top four girls and the top five boys earn entry into the state finals the following week at EWU in Cheney.

The regional, which brings in the top finishers from the SE will be at the Central Valley track with the NE qualifiers.
