Bulldog golfers advance to districts

All seven Colfax golfers made the first half cut Monday at Deer Park in the NE sub-district round to advance to the district round next Tuesday at Colville.

The top 11 finishers for boys and girls at Colville will go on to the state finals.

The Bulldogs Monday were led by Hunter Weitze who won the medalist honors with a 73 score on the par 72 Deer Park course to top 56 entrants.

Weitze hit par in a previous league round at Deer Park, but the field Monday had to deal with gusting winds. He finished three strokes ahead of Palmer Guhlke of Davenport. Colfax senior Kasey Johnson placed third with a 78.

The Bulldogs dominated the team score with 154.5 points, more than double the 68 booked by number-two Northwest Christian.

Other scorers for Colfax were Cody Gronning, 5th at 82; Chance Weitze, 7th at 83; Bennett Gray, 9th at 85 and Augie Allenbach, 17th with a 92.

Cutoff for the first round was the top 27 on the boys’ side.

Kylie Gronning of Colfax placed 9th with 99 to make the top 17 cut for the girls.

Alicia Johnson of Wilbur/Creston hit a 77 for medalist honors on the girls’ side. She finished 13 strokes ahead of Shaylee Felker, number two finisher at 90.

Scores for the Deer Park round will be combined with next Tuesday’s scores at Colville to decide the entrants for the state finals next week at Columbia Point Course in Richland.

Michala Tee of Tekoa/Rosalia also made the cut with a 103 for ninth place. Maddie Gregory booked a 125.

Tekoa/Rosalia golfers finishing out of the action were Matt Walla 101, James Herr 113, Ben Zimmerman 114 and Dawson Strobel.
