Maley, Rosalia boys outlast Vikings 8-7

At Oakesdale Tuesday, with bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Rosalia brought back senior Ryan Maley to the mound.

At bat was Gar-Pal/T.O. junior Hunter Woltering.

Going to a full count, with the Vikings down 8-7, Maley wound up and threw a fastball.

Woltering thought it was low.

The umpire called strike and the game was over.

Gar-Pal/T.O. had eight hits in the game, led by Wyatt Griner’s triple and two singles each from Cole Sanderson and Mason Bates.

On the mound for the Vikings, Woltering pitched three and two-thirds innings to give up seven runs while Jesse Lopez followed, throwing three and one-third innings. Griner came in to pitch the seventh.

Craig Nelson led at bat for Rosalia with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Ryan Maley added a triple. In addition, Kade Holling had two base hits while Jason Brown, Lucas Engel and Anthony Riley delivered key RBIs.

Nelson pitched the sixth inning and into the seventh with Rosalia leading 8-5. After two runs walked in, Maley came in in to face Woltering, who became the final batter.

On Saturday, Gar-Pal/T.O. went to Walla Walla to play DeSales and went down in two mercy-rule games to the defending state champions, 12-0 and 17-1.

In the first game, Wyatt Griner and Quinton Neumann’s singles were the only hits the team had. In the second, the Vikings had no hits while Matt Chittendon scored on a bases loaded walk.

Gar-Pal/T.O.’s overall record is now 5-7-1 (2-5 in league).

They were set to play next on Wednesday vs. Waitsburg-Prescott in Oakesdale, followed by another game Saturday in Oakesdale against Pomeroy.
