Bulldog boys battle for two more wins

Colfax boys battled for two wins over the weekend to bump the NE league mark to 3-1 going into the holiday break. Saturday Colfax battled back at Reardan to depart with a 51-50 clip of the Indians.

The one-point win on the road at Reardan followed a 46-37 home win against a persistent Charger team from Springdale.

The Bulldogs will now play in the holiday classic at Lewiston and Clarkston this weekend and resume league play Jan. 3 by hosting Northwest Christian.

The Crusaders also have a 3-1 mark on the new season after pegging a 69-46 win over Davenport in the Saturday night round.

In the other league games Saturday, St.George’s continued their early league domination win a 63-41 win over the LRS Broncos on the Dragons’ court with Dexter Sienko dropping 22 points.

Saturday at Reardan, the Indians blistered Colfax 23-10 in the first quarter, but the Bulldogs erased 10 points off the gap with an 18-8 run in the second quarter. The teams played even in the third quarter and Colfax bagged the lead in the last quarter and held off a last possession by the Reardan hosts.

Reardan is now 0-4 in league play.

Junior Brent Becker, who was activated last weekend, led Colfax with 13 points at Reardan and Kasey Johnson and Keith Gfeller each had 11.

Friday night in the home gym, the Bulldogs took and early league, but the couldn’t shake the Chargers who stalked the hosts for the game.

Becker also led Colfax with 15 against the Chargers and had a strong night on the boards. Johnson finished with 14.

Colfax late in the game cracked a 10-point lead, but the Chargers rolled back with six quick points off a pair of three-point shots.

Colfax again inched ahead with Kasey Johnson hitting a string of toss shots in the late going. Johnson finished with a 7-10 mark off the line.

Coach Reece Jenkin called time with 1:39 left and put the Bulldogs in a clock burning mode to put the win in the bank at 46-37.
