County swimmers start season

The Whitman County Summer Swim League got off to a warm start Tuesday night at Colfax Municipal Pool.

In a four-team meet, Pomeroy won in combined scores, posting 564 points while St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse (S.E.L.) took second with 330.5 and Colfax finished third (202.5). Taking fourth was Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia (T.O.R.) with 186 points.

In individual event winners, leading off, Conr Hergert of S.E.L. took first in the boys 11-12 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:24.00 and Michael Clinton of Colfax won the boys 15-18 100-yard freestyle in 1:06.21. The girls 8 & under 100-yard medley relay was won by the team of Harper Booth, Aura Roberts, Kendall Clinton and Paige Cocking in a time of 2:32.00.

For the girls 9-10 100-yard relay, S.E.L.’s team of Marianne Treis, Ava Heglar, Gen McGregor and Ellie Tollett took first in 1:48.09.

S.E.L. also won the boys 9-10 100-yard relay, as the team of Austin Stanley, Riley Brennan, Tanner Fleming and Dane Neace finished with a time of 1:47.29.

In the girls 11-12 200-yard medley relay, Colfax’s MacKenna Roberts, Madison Cox, Tayma Vanek and Ashley Hayes took first with a time of 3:21.00.

In the boys 11-12 200-yard medley relay, S.E.L.’s team of Jakob Dyas, Dominic Treis, Ethan Hughes and Conr Hergert posted a winning time of 3:28.00.

For the girls 8 & under 25-yard freestyle race, Brooke Brennan of S.E.L. touched the wall first with 24.47 time.

Helina Hahn of Colfax won the girls 9-10 25-yard freestyle with a time of 16.63 and Riley Brennan of S.E.L. took first in the boys 9-10 25-yard freestyle (16.91).

For the girls 11-12 50-yard freestyle, Tayma Vanek of Colfax finished first in 42.84.

Colfax’s Michael Clinton then won the boys 15-18 50-yard freestyle (28.15).

In the girls 8 & under 25-yard butterfly, S.E.L.’s Brennan took first with a time of 33.09.

Ava Heglar of S.E.L. followed with a first place swim of 22.75 in the girls 9-10 25-yard butterfly.

The boys 9-10 25-yard butterfly race followed and S.E.L.’s Riley Brennan won in 24.28.

Dominic Treis then got in the pool again and posted a 49.57 time to win the boys 11-12 50-yard backstroke.

In the boys 11-12 50-yard backstroke, Dylan Eaton of T.O.R. finished first with a time of 1:05.84.

For the girls 8 & under 100-yard freestyle relay, Colfax’s team of Harper Booth, Kendall Clinton, Paige Cocking and Aura Roberts took first in 2:23.00.

The girls 9-10 100-yard freestyle relay was then won by S.E.L.’s Ava Heglar, Zoe Bailey, Matea Enzweiler and Isabel Shepherd, in a time of 1:26.37.

The S.E.L. boys 9-10 100-yard freestyle relay team of Austin Stanley, Tanner Fleming, Dane Neace and Riley Brennan posted a winning time of 1:41.00.

Rounding out the local first-place finishers, S.E.L’s girls team of Catherine Treis, Logan Stanley, Rachel Larsen and Drew Brewer won the 11-12 200-yard freestyle relay (3:02.73).
