SJELW, TOR track to state

Several local 2B track and field athletes qualified for the state championships this Friday and Saturday in Cheney.

Competing last week at the District 9 meet in Clarkston, Tyler Blakely of the Tekoa-Oakesdale-Rosalia boys took first in the high jump and finished second in the100 meters and 200 meters.

SJELW’s Darcy Stamper finished in second in the high jump, tying Blakely’s mark of six feet, while Blakely had less misses.

For the girls, Olivia Pakootas took first in the high jump and the triple jump.

Annie Bailey of SJELW won the javelin while T.O.R.’s Courtenay Perry took first in the 800 meters.

Several SJELW and T.O.R. girls and boys finished second in various events, also qualifying them for the state meet.

In team results, the SJELW girls took second place in the district with 98 points behind Asotin’s 160. The T.O.R. girls finished third with 94 points.

The state championships’ prelimary races begin at Eastern Washington University at 10 a.m. Friday.

Final heats will take place Saturday.
