Colton wins Regional 7/9 softball championship

State begins in Yakima Friday vs. Klickitat

The Colton High School softball team won the Regional 7/9 2B championship last weekend with three wins at Medical Lake.

In two of the games, Colton trailed early before coming back.

"We finished well," said Wildcats coach Brad Nilson. "It’s kind of hard when you spot them a bunch of points."

Sophomore Winnie Schultheis and freshman Zoe Moser pitched in combination the entire three games.

"One of them has a lot of spin and the other a lot of speed so they set each other up well," Nilson said.

It’s Schultheis with the speed and Moser with the spin, Nilson said.

During the three games, Schultheis also hit two home runs while Hannah Kramer, Rachel Meyer and Jenna Moser also hit a home run.

Colton now advances to the state tournament in Yakima this Friday and Saturday.

They will travel Thursday morning and practice at Yakima Valley College that afternoon.

Colton’s first-round game is against Klickitat at 1 p.m. Friday at Gateway Park.

"My girls, I think they’re ready," said Nilson.
