Bulldog girls win sixth straight District title

Cofax girls again rolled up a pile of points Friday to take the sixth straight track title at the District 7 qualifications at Riverside.

The Bulldog girls finished with 189 team points with a 83-point gap over number-two Northwest Christian.

Colfax boys cooked 106 points to place third in the team standings behind NWC and Reardan.

Overall, Colfax will take 22 tracksters to the state 2B finals Friday and Saturday at Eastern Washington University.

Scout Cai, Colfax freshman who battled an injury during the early season, finished with four event wins in the disitrict finals

She bumped NWC freshman Sarah Taylor in both the 100 and 200 sprits and won the pole vault and high jump.

Bailey Mackleit, a junior, booked another win in the 100 hurdles but she also bumped NWC’s Isabel Clark for a win in the 300 for her best day yet. Mackleit clocked at 48.29 in the 300 to edge Clark by .07.

Nicole Sheer also took two events with a 33-9 in the shot put and a 102-10 in the discus. Taylor Cai hit 96-7 in the javelin for a win, and Olivia Mellor won the triple jump at 32-3.75 for her first state entry.

The Bulldogs 4 X 100 and 4 x 200 relay team of Amelie Bruya, Leah Heine, Sheer and Mackleit did business as usual with wins in both events.

On the boys side, Justin Aucutt took the 400 meter run with a 51.76. However, Aucutt rated top performance honor of the day for his anchor leg in the 4 X 400 to qualify the Colfax team in third place. Aucutt took the baton in last place and passed four runners to peg a third-place qualification.

"He ran that split in 49.04, and that’s the fastest split I’ve ever seen as a coach, " Cooper said.

The Colfax 4 X 100 relay team also took a win with Aucutt, Austin Corean, Bo Claassen and Dylan Hall clocking a 51.76.

Senior Skylar Simonson topped 5-10 to qualify first in the high jump, and Cody Fulfs qualified with a second in the triple at 37-9.

Josh Brown hit a 127-2 to qualify second in the discus, and Sam Dailey cleared 11-0, for a third place qualifier in the pole vault. Dailey edged Simonson who also hit 11-0 but placed fourth on the number of misses.
