Ochs duo attends hydro meet

Jon and Li Ochs traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to attend the National Hydro Association Annual Conference and also to see their grandchildren. Li states that it was very interesting to see how hydro power is becoming more popular again. There were two hydro bills that came before Congress in recent weeks and both passed unanimously. Congresswoman Cathy McMorris is reported to be leading the effort. The Ochs said it was an exciting week for all in the hydro industry and particularly in the Pacific Northwest. They also visited Shanti Ochs Stanton and their grandchildren, Sean, 6, Brady, 4, and Samantha, 15 months.

Dusty Country Store has added a new item to their inventory. Last week, they started selling “made in-house” 16-inch pizzas to order. They will bake them at the store or customers can take them home to bake. They also sell pizza by the slice.

Greg and Connie Young have welcomed grandchild Claire Kathleen Cox, born April 3 to Ben and Andrea Young Cox of Pullman. Paternal grandparents are Bob and Resa Cox of Pomeroy and Lori Cox of Pasco. Maternal great-grandmother is Dolores Mader of Colfax.

Last week Lucky and Joan Myrick and Larry Brink attended their Uncle Kenneth Brink’s memorial services at Tahoma National Cemetery at Kent. They spent Friday and Saturday night at the home of the Myrick’s son Mike in Spanaway. After the public services at the cemetery, there was a private family service and supper at the home of Suzanne and Jim Ryan, another niece, in Olympia. The Myricks and Brink returned home Sunday.

Joan Brink officially retired April 25 from her job as caregiver for the developmentally disabled at Dream Works. Future plans are to work on the Myrick jewelry business.

This past weekend was the annual mini-reunion of the women of the LaCrosse High Class of 1979 at the Parsonage Bed and Breakfast. Attending were Sheri Shaffer Hatley, Oakesdale; Paula Morris Meyer, Pullman; Doreen Broeckel Riedner, Genesee, and Denise Broeckel Kendall, Tacoma, with a cameo appearance by another former classmate. Joining them for breakfast Sunday morning was Sheri’s mother, Darlene Shaffer, LaCrosse, and Denise and Doreen’s father, Oscar Broeckel, Dusty.

News has been received of the death of Clarvine Manuel Van Epps, daughter of Clara Stueckle and granddaughter of the late Jacob and Louisa Stueckle. Van Epps died April 29 at the age of 63 in Yakima.

Lelia Zaring and Sharon Poffenroth Byma, LaCrosse native now of Outlook, visited with Vicki Broeckel last Friday.

Jan and Harmon Smith joined the Country Bible Church as members Sunday.

Rafe and Tate Carlson, Spokane, spent the weekend with grandparents, Kim and Cindy Pitts.

Last Friday, Phyllis Stueckle fell and injured her head. She spent four days in I.C.U. at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. She returned home Monday.
