Bulldog girls power to big N.E. track win

Colfax girls Tuesday dominated their first NE track meet by rolling up 116 points with some stellar performances.

The Gorillas hosted 10 teams, most of them from the NE district.

Colfax boys rolled up 86 points to finish second to Reardan, the dominator on that side of the meet.

Taylor and Scout Cai each pegged two wins for the girls. Taylor Cai took the discus at 111-0 and won the javelin at 86-6.

Nicole Sheer pegged a personal record in the shotput with a 36-2 for the win. The mark topped the 34-2.5 she threw in the big Deer Park meet before spring break.

Sheer also had a PR in the discus at 107-5 to finish behind the mark set by Taylor Cai.

Scout Cai, a freshman, set a school record in the pole vault with an 8-9 win. That tags three inches onto the prior record.

Bailey Mackleit booked a double win in the hurdles with a 17.1 in the 100 and a 52.l5 in the 300. Leah Heiner tracked Mackleit with a second in the 200 and a third in the 300 meter event.

The Colfax team for 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relays also took wins. Amelie Bruya, Sheer, Scout Cai and Mackleit booked a 52.3 in the 4 X 100 and a 1:52 in the 4 X 200.

Olivia Mellor, who sustained an ankle injury in the opener at Lewiston, went back into action at the Tuesday meet in Davenport and won the triple jump with a 29-0

On the boys side, the 4 x 100 team pegged a win with Beau Claassen, Justin Aucutt, Cody Fulfs and Austin Corean.

Corean also topped a big entry in the 100 and took the win at 11.5. He was second in the 200 with a 23.18 behind the 23.0 clocked by Matt Fryberger.

Skylar Simonson again won the pole vault at 11-0, the same mark which garnered a win at Deer Park. Tuesday he was locked up in a tie-breaker Davenport’s Perry after both cleared the 11-0. The tie-breaker format takes the cross bar down to the previous height with the win going to the first vaulter to clear. Simonson won it with his first try at 10-6.

Sam Dailey took third in the event with a 9-6.

Fulfs placed fourth in the triple at 38-8, and Josh Brown placed second in the discus at 110.

At the Deer Park meet, which drew 21 teams from a wide range of classification, both Colfax teams placed fourth.
