Elaine Ann Henderson

Elaine Henderson, 60, died at her Garfield home last Wednesday, April 3, 2013.

Born August 13, 1952, at Odessa to Lester R. and Yvonne (Gilbert) Schenk, she grew up in Harrington, where she attended schools and graduated from Harrington High School. She later attended Fort Wright College and Washington State University.

Elaine worked as a janitor at a department store in Spokane for several years. She moved to Garfield more than 25 years ago, and worked for Cher’s restaurant for several years. She retired for health reasons and had been disabled the last few years.

She had been married and divorced. Elaine had also played the piano and organ for her church in Garfield. She was a member of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas (Becky) Schenk of Harrington; a sister, Meka Eaton of Harrington, and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be held and her ashes will be buried in Harrington. A private family memorial service will be at the cemetery.

Rick Persons

Rick Persons, 59, a 1972 graduate of Colfax High School, died Friday morning, April 5, at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Spokane. Surviving are his mother, Marlene Rounds, two brothers, Brad and Tom Persons, and a sister, Gina Sanders, all of Colfax. He was preceded in death by a son, Jesse Persons.

In accordance with his wishes, a funeral service will not be conducted.

Gertrude Robinson

Funeral services for Gertrude M. Robinson, 94, former long-time St. John resident, were Saturday, April 6, at the St. John Christian Church. Private burial was in the St. John cemetery.

She died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, in Spokane.

Born June 29, 1918, in Spokane, to George and Alice (Nelson) Mattingly, she grew up in St. John and attended school there. Her father died while Gertrude was fairly young and after high school she kept busy helping her mother for a few years.

She married Roy Elmer Robinson of Sunset June 18, 1940. Roy worked for the Inland Empire Milling Co. in St. John. She was a member of the Rebekas and active in the St. John Christian Church. She loved to sing, read, sew and do embroidery work.

Following Mr. Robinison’s death in 1978, Gertrude worked as a cook for the senior meal site in St. John. She was an excellent cook.

She moved to Spokane in 2006 to be closer to her daughter and lived with her until her passing.

Surviving are two children; Beverly Seidl, Spokane, and Mark (Dana) Robinson, Graham; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, David Schuler.

Alice J. Steendahl

A memorial service for Alice Jean Steendahl, 79, Colfax, will be at Community Bible Church today, April 11, 2013, at 2 p.m. She died March 30, 2013, at Whitman Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, May 22, 1933, she attended high school in Edmonton and was a model for Montgomery Ward for five years.

She married Keith Ingraham and they had four children. After 23 years they were divorced. Jean worked many jobs around Colfax. She loved to do craft projects and collect spoons.

Surviving are her children Theresa Ingraham, Forest Ingraham, Craig Ingraham and Kim Ingraham. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tyler Ingraham.
