SJELW track team posts high marks at Dayton

A six-team 1B/2B track meet was held in Dayton on Friday, March 22, which was a make-up for one canceled due to weather in Clarkston the previous Wednesday.

In a cold day featuring sun and clouds and occasional snow flurries, the Dayton event concluded with the boys 3200 meter race and the girls 4X400 relay held in snow thick enough to obscure the view of the runners in the far reaches of the track.

In team scores, St. John-Endicott-LaCrosse-Washtucna (SJELW) took first place for the girls while the SJELW boys finished third.

SJLEW’s first-place girls included Abby Glorfield in the 400 meters, with a time of 1:06.97, Shania Bailey with an 800-meter time of 2:48.15, and Heather Siegel in the 1600 (5:57.12). Annie Bailey won the javelin with a throw of 106 feet, 10 inches.

The 4X100 relay team of Madison Harder, Glorfield, Annie Bailey and Gretchen Van Lith took first with a time of 56.28.

The 4X200 relay team of Bailey, Gail Harder, Glorfield and Madison Harder took first with a time of 2:02.18. The 4X400 relay team of Bailey, Shania Bailey, Jade Porubek and Heather Siegel finished first at 5:03.31.

The SJELW boys were led by Kaleb Simon’s 19 feet, 8.75-inch first-place long jump and his 39-feet, 7.5-inch triple jump, also for first-place. Graham DeBell took first in the javelin with a throw of 126 feet, seven inches.

Julio Dominguez took third in the discus with a distance of 91 feet, nine inches.

In addition, Rodrigo Santos took third-place in the 100 meters (12.32 seconds) while Luke Bailey finished fourth in the 1600 meters (5:43.15). In addition, Sam Harder was fifth in the 100 meters and fifth in the 200.
