Colfax defeats Scotties

Colfax bats struck early and Brady Ellis threw a one-hitter Tuesday as the Bulldogs opened their home season with a 5-1 win over Freeman at McDonald Park. The Bulldogs finished with seven hits for the night.

The win in the home opener followed a split posted by the Bulldogs Saturday when they opened the new season with a split in the Asotin Tournament. They defeated the Clarkston JVs 6-3, and bowed to Potlatch, Idaho 1-A champs, 1-4.

Tuesday on the home field, Ellis started his senior season by striking out five Scotties while throwing the one-hitter. He allowed two walks and hit two batters.

Colfax scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning with RBI hits after Freeman walked the first two Colfax batters. Patrick Jacobs, John Mellor and Jeff Davies had the RBIs.

Colfax added one in the fourth when Dylan Heiser drew a walk and stole second. Garrett Burke tagged a single, and Ellis sacrificed to score Heiser.

Jacobs doubled to start the last Colfax score and later scored on a single by Mark Webber.

The Bulldogs totaled seven hits in the game with Jacobs tagging the double and a single. Also tagging singles were Burke, Ellis, Davies and Webber.

Wyatt Smith took the loss for the visiting Scotties.

Saturday at Clarkston, Colfax topped the Clarkston JV team 6-3 with Burke pitching the first two innings and Davies working the last four. A sophomore, Davies was credited with his first varsity win.

Jacobs and Kramlich each doubled against the junior Bantams. Jacobs and Davies also had singles.

Jacobs pitched into the fourth inning against the big Logger team and allowed just one run. Heiser finished.

The Loggers totaled eight hits with Mark Amos cracking a key double in the in fifth h to bring in the go-ahead run for the Loggers.

Jacobs had the lone hit for Colfax.
