Bulldog girls honor seniors at banquet

Colfax girls’ basketball team honored seniors Rachel Robinson, Amelie Bruya and Bekah Kraut at their season-end banquet last Thursday night at the Bulldog cafeteria.

The season for the Bulldog girls came within one win of getting back to the final eight show at the Spokane Arena. They were stopped by White Swan 40-41 in the regional round at Sunnyside after advancing through the playoff rounds at Dayton and Walla Walla.

Colfax finished the season at 23-6.

Robinson received the inspirational award, and Bruya, a four-year varsity player, received the most valuable player award.

Sophomore guard Kori Goodwin received the team’s hustle award, and Brooklyn Schmidt received the most improved award. Schmidt turned out for basketball this year for the first time as a junior.

Coach Corey Baerlocher, who wrapped up his 11th year with the Bulldogs, also presented captains’ awards to Robinson and Bruya.

Five other varsity players received awards along with two jayvee players who moved up at the end of the season.

Other varsity players receiving letter awards were Scout Cai, Andra Hamilton, Amara Huber, Nicole Sheer, Taylor Larsen and Bailey Mackleit.

Katelyn Scholz and Olivia Mellor, freshmen on the jayvee team who were added to the varsity at the end of the season, were also recognized.

Jayvee Coach Trevor Cocking presented certificates to seven jayvee players.

Cocking noted the jayvees compiled a 17-3 record capped by an all-out win over Colton in the last game.

Jayvee recipients include Roxanne Allenbach, Kim Hinnenkamp, Allison Dunning, Sidney Sheer, Olivia Mellor, Kylie Gronning and Katelyn Scholz.

Scooter Brannan, the Bulldogs’ top fan, was presented a team photo by Bruya.

Connie Ellis, first- year cheerleader advisor, presented awards to her squad which includes Paige Mackleit, Taylor Lange, Rachel Napier, Jacee Thompson, Hannah Knaack, Jolee Aeschliman, Hailey Ring and Morgan Reynolds.

Coach Baerlocher noted at the end of the program that the summer team camp at Colfax will be one week this year. He commended parents and other supporters for their volunteer efforts in producing the summer camp each year.
