Barney wins 113 class at Kittitas tournament Tournamen

Mitch Barney won the 113-pound class at the 18-team Kittitas Tournament last Saturday while Josh Miller placed second at 160 and Kevin Knauff took fourth, also at 160.

In the 132-pound bracket, Thomas Newton finished fourth as well.

The Colfax team placed 10th, with six wrestlers from Colfax, three from Gar-Pal and one from St. John competing in the event.

To win the 113-pound class, Barney, a freshman, met Kittitas’ Logan Webber in the finals and trailed 7-2 before catching Webber on his back for a fall. It was Barney’s first time competing at 113 this year.

“Mitch’s hard work and dedication to wrestling is starting to pay off,” said Colfax Coach Dennis Gransbery.

Colfax will wrestle tonight, Thursday, at home vs. Moscow. Matches will begin at 6 p.m. on what will be senior night for the Colfax team.

Five wrestlers will be recognized; Captain Dalton McNeilly (142 pounds), Josh Miller (160), Thomas Newton (132), Brendan Lord (170) and Aaron Arneson (220).

Lord and Arneson are both out with injuries.

The Colfax team is made up of wrestlers from Colfax, Gar-Pal and St. John.
