Tigercats, Wildcats advance win strings

SE boys basketball went to the cats over the weekend, with the Colton Wildcats and LaCrosse/Washtucna Tigercats swept through league play.

Colton, defending league champs, dispatched visiting Liberty Christian 61-37 Friday night before sinking host Pomeroy 64-46 Saturday.

Jake Straughan led the Wildcat charge against the Pirates, hitting 12 shots on his way to a game-high 31 points. Post Dalton Patchen added 15 points and 12 boards as the ‘cats pulled away in the third quarter.

Riley Bott hit 16 points to top the Pirates.

Patchen led the way against the Patriots Friday on the home court, downing 25 points as the Wildcats took the game early with a 15-4 first quarter. Straughan added 20 points.

Tuesday night, the Wildcats traveled all the way to Grangeville where they sustained a 52-84 defeat after the hosts bombed 31 points in the last quarter. Colton hit just five in the last frame after the Bulldogs switched to a zone defense.

LaCrosse/Washtucna sank St. John/Endicott at home Friday night 64-54, with big man Jed Zimmer boiling 30 beans. Justin Wargo had 19 of his own for the T-cats.

Kaleb Simon hit 17 for the Eags and Zach Hollingsworth added 16.

In the Saturday round, the ‘cats dispatched a tight Touchet team 57-39 with a pull-away fourth quarter that saw Darcy Stamper score six of his game-high 18 points. LW put six other players in the score book of a rough-and-tumble game that saw both teams camp out at the charity stripe.

Rosalia’s Craig Nelson put down a league-high 36 points Saturday to lead the Spartans to a thrilling come-back 60-54 win over host St. John/Endicott. Down six points entering the final frame, the Sparts rallied to push ahead with a 27-15 fourth quarter. Dakota White canned 22 to lead the Eagles.

Garfield/Palouse put on a comeback show over the Spartans Friday night on the way to a 55-49 win.

Jesse Lopez had 20 points to top the Vikings, who won the game with a 20-13 fourth quarter charge. Tyler Thurman added 14. Zane Brown and Craig Nelson topped Rosalia with 13 points each.

Monday night, the Vikings fell victim to the hot second half from host Liberty Christian and lost 43-52. The Vikings held LC without a point in the second quarter, but Jared Hoey caught fire after the break, canning 21 of his game-high 23 points to lead the Pats. Lopez again topped GP with 11 points and Matt Holbrook pitched in 10.

Tekoa/Oakesdale dropped a pair of big losses over the weekend, falling Friday to Odessa/Harrington in a non-leaguer 14-59 and Saturday to league foe Liberty Christian 19-52.
