Colton, Eagle girls power up to lead SE league campaign

Colton and St. John/Endicott girls bagged big wins over the weekend to remain at the head of the pack in the SE 1B race. Both teams are undefeated in league play and the lone loss sustained to date by the league leaders came at the start of the season when the Eagles girls hosted Colfax.

Colton Tuesday moved their mark to 5-0 after a long road trip to Grangeville where they booked a 56-14 win. Jenna Moser hit 24 points. to move the Wildcats’ win string to 35 games.

Saturday, Colton came up with another crusher win, 81-21 over a Pomeroy team which is off to a rough start this year. Moser hit 18 on the road at Colton.

Friday, the Wildcats hammered Liberty Christian 87-15 at Colton with Jenna Moser pegging another 18. The Wildcats defense actually shut out the Pats in the second quarter.

Next round for the Wildcats will be Friday when they roll to Oakesdale to play Tekoa/Oakesdale. The Nighthawks have also stacked a a 4-0 record to date in the league.

The `hawks Friday crunched Odessa/Harrigton 53-25 in a non-leaguer at Harrington and hit the road Saturday for a 60-39 win over the Patriots at Richland. Courtenay Perry and Alex Overton each hit 11 against the Patriots.

St. John/Endicott Friday booked a 57-16 win over the LWK Tigercats at Washtucna to to keep their league string rolling with Gretchen Van Lith hitting 13 points. The Eagles held the Tigercats to just six points in the first quarter.

Saturday on their home court the Eagles rolled past the Rosalia Spartans 50-23 with another power start. Rosalia rolled to St. John with a 4-0 mark after taking out Garfield/Palouse 34-20 on the Spartans’ court in the Friday round.

Garfield/Palouse girls Monday night broke out for their first win of the season against Liberty Christian. The game was a makeup date because of the Pats’ late hoop start after their football title run.

The Vikings came back early for a 16-14 lead at the break and added six points to the gap in the third quarter on the way to a 35-29 win. Alexis Rodriguez hit five shots from the field and finished with 17 points. Mackenzie McLanahan added eight points.
