Reardan champs target Colfax 6-0 season start

Colfax girls last week continued their early season power sweep with three more wins to move their record to 6-0. The Bulldogs will put the early mark on the line Friday night when they host the Reardan Indians in the third league round Friday.

Brooklyn Schmidt of Colfax and Ale Wert of St. George's look for the handle on a rebound in the girls game at Colfax Friday.

Colfax hammered St. George’s 47-28 Friday in their home opener, took out Lakeside 57-48 in a non-leaguer at home, and then went to Davenport Tuesday where they dropped the Gorilla girls 54-27. Colfax started with a 13-1 after the first quarter.

The 6-0 run will be on line Friday night when the Reardan Indians arrive in town for the third league round. The showdown will feature many of the same girls who collided in the volleyball title game last month in Yakima’s SunDome.

Reardan will arrive with a 4-1 record after their two-title win streak was snapped with a loss to Brewster, their foes in the 2B title game last year.

Tuesday night at Davenport, Amara Huber took a turn on the high point slot with 14 points and Nicole Sheer hit 12.

Amelie Bruya goes for a lay-in with Dragon Taryn Stamper in hot pursuit.

Saturday afternoon on the home court, Colfax and Lakeside tied at 29-29 after three quarters in the second home game of the season. The Bulldogs opened a five-point gap in the last quarter and made it stick against the birds. Taylor Larsen led the even scoring attack with 11 against the Eagles, and Nicole Sheer was credited with eight rebounds.

The Eagles were called for 23 fouls, and Colfax collected 16-28 at the toss line.

Friday in their home opener against the SG Dragons, the Bulldogs again got off to a fast start and rang up a 28-18 lead at the half.

The Dragons turned the ball over 32 times against the hustling Colfax defense.

Sheer and Amelie Bruya, who had two three-point shots against the Dragons, each finished with 11 points.

St. George senior Alex Wert booked a game-high 15 points.

This week’s renewal of the Reardan rivalry at Colfax will be followed by another crunch test Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to NWC at Colbert.

Reardan’s team last year went undefeated in the league campaign and stopped Colfax twice, 56-42 and 65-43. Reardan had seven juniors on last year’s title team.
