Eagle girls take lead with two league stops

The St. John/Endicott girls booked two wins in the first weekend of league competition, and the Nighthawk girls extended their new season record to 3-0 Tuesday with another non-league battle with the Asotin Panthers.

Chandler Pfaff of the Vikings looks for an outlet pass with Annie Bailey and Gretchen Van Lith (24) checking her next move for the Eagles.

Colton’s girls made their league debut with a big win at Touchet in the Saturday round. The Wildcats will host Liberty Christian Friday for their league home opener.

In Tuesday’s non-leaguer, lone game on the SE slate, the Nighthawks trailed by a point at the half but opened with an 18 point charge after the break.

Cassie Mendoza led the ‘hawks with 13 and Cheyanne Ausman hit a game high 22 for the Panthers who play in the SE big-B loop.

In their season opener at Oakesdale Nov. 30 the ‘hawks dropped Asotin by 17.

St. John/Endicott opened with big wins on the road, 71-37 Friday at Pomeroy and 58-19 Saturday at Palouse. The Eagles rolled out 21 points in the first quarter at each destination to grab quick control of both games.

Devan Bafus also hit 21 to lead the Eagles at both stops. She hit four treys at Pomeroy, and five against the Vikings at Palouse.

Next stop for the Eagles will be at Washtucna against the Tigercats Friday.
