Barney, Newton top entry at Logger tourney

Mitch Barney of Colfax and Thomas Newton of St. John each rolled up 3-1 records Saturday to top the locals in the Griswold Invitational wrestling tournament at Potlatch. The Colfax contingent booked a 13-18 overall record in the big Potlatch tournament which was won by the team from McCall.

After making the trip to Potlatch Saturday, Colfax and Garfield/Palouse wrestlers hosted six Logger wrestlers at Colfax Tuesday night.

At the Saturday tourney Ray Compton of Colfax had a feature match for Colfax when he took his opponent from Wallace, Idaho, into triple overtime. Compton finished 2-3 for the day.

Dalton McNeilly booked a 2-2 in the 152 class and Arron Arneson finished 1-3 with a another close battle with a McCall foe.

Bryan DeYoung booked a 3-1 to finish second in the group of wrestlers assigned under the tourney format.

Garfield/Palouse lightweight Trapper Askins, who booked a final seconds win at Colfax Tuesday night, finished at 1-2 in the tournament, and Tyson Rogers, who booked a split Tuesday, finished 0-3.

Josh Miller of GP booked a 1-2 record at Potlatch.

Freshman Reggie Jones posted a 1-3 mark in the 132 class, and Brendan Lord posted a 1-2 in the 170 class.
