Wildcats, Nighthawks start hoop season in same VB gear

Colton and Tekoa/Oakesdale girls last week kept the same power mode in place when they started the basketball season. The Nighthawks Friday posted a big 49-32 .win at Oakesdale over the visiting Asotin Panthers. Colton opened the season on their home court with a 71-26 win over a Grangeville team which arrived with a 2-2 record.

The Wildcats dropped 27 points on Grangeville to extend their win streak to 32 games.

Colton veteran Jenna Moser led the Wildcats with 22 points, and Paige Vincent pulled down six rebounds.

Haley Sullivan hit 16 for guests who put up just six points in the last two quarters.

The `hawks and Panthers locked up in a 6-4 battle in the first quarter and then the Tekoa/Oakesdale dropped by bomb with 19 in the second frame on the way to a 49-32 win.

Sophomore Kim Groom hit 16 to lead the Nighthawks in the opener.

Rosalia girls, led by junior Mackenzie Reddish, bagged two non-league wins.

The Spartans started the season with a 41-20 win over neighboring Liberty Friday with Reddish hitting 18 points.

Saturday, the Spartans traveled to Wellpinit and posted a 43-29 win with Reddish hitting 23 points. Rosalia staked a 26-13 lead before the break before going to the bench in the second half.

Garfield/Palouse girls sustained two defeats in the week’s action. The Vikings were edged 51-45 in Tuesday action at Garfield with Taylor Redman hitting 18. Saturday night at Troy the Vikings sustained a 30-48 loss. Redman hit 14 in that round.
