Bulldsogs place fourth at Davenport invitational

Colfax wrestlers placed fourth in the team scoring Saturday at the Davenport Invitational. Three of the grapplers placed second after advancing to the championship round in their weight divisions. Each finished with a 2-1 mark after being defeated in the title rounds.

The Bulldogs finished with a total record of 15-13 for the nine wrestlers on the competition.

Other title matches saw Arron Arneson pinned by Teigan Glidewll of Freeman in the 285 class, and Brandon Arneson pinned by Charlie Eldred of Reardan in the third round of the 160-pound final.

Mitch Barney and Brendan Lord both finished in third place after winning consolation final matches. Barney edged James Monaghan of Lake Roosevelt 13-11 in the 120 class, and Lord edged Dallas Pierce of NWC 11-8. in the 170 class.

Both of the Bulldogs finished with 3-1 records.

Thomas Newton of St. John also compiled a 3-1 mark and won his consolation final match to place third. Newton is one of the Eagles wrestlers practicing at Colfax this year.

Garfield/Palouse lightweight Trapper Askins booked a 1-2 at Davenport.

Ray Compton of Colfax finished in fourth place with a 2-2 mark after losing his consolation final 0-5 to Josiah Thompson of Newport.

Dalton McNeilly booked a 1-2 record at Davenport, and Tyson Rogers and Brian DeYoung each booked 0-2 marks. A senior, McNeilly has been working in the 152 weight class.

Coach Dennis Gransberry said the Colfax combo contingent plans to compete at the Potlatch tourney Saturday with more wrestlers. They have six more wrestlers on the practice mats this year, and he hopes more team members will get their grades in shape to qualify for the competition.
