Colton, Lakeside spark hoop launch at Colfax

Lakeside of Nine Mile and Colton Wildcat champions will make an appearance Tuesday in the Colfax girls hoop jamboree to launch the season. Colfax Coach Corey Baerlocher reported the teams, jayvees and varsity, will play 10 minute rounds with Colfax and Lakeside matches first, Colton and Lakeside next and Colfax and Colton last.

Jayvee teams will play first in each matchup.

Colfax Coach Baerlocher and crew will start the new season with another young team.

Colfax graduated three seniors off the 2012 team. Hannah Harazin, who anchored much of the Colfax inside game, Morgan Willson and Elizabeth Hatley, both speed ingredients in 2012, also graduated.

Colfax last year finished 16-8 on the season and were stopped short of the 2B state finals by the Northwest Christian in the regionals at Mt. Spokane High School.

Team MVP Amelie Bruya returns as a seasoned starter. Also back as a senior is guard Rachel Robinson.

Taylor Larsen, an inside power last year, and Nicole Sheer, who missed about half of last year's season recovering from injury, will return.

Coach Baerlocher noted Bailey Mackleit, a junior, and Amara Huber, a sophomore, will be back on the varsity this year.

Colfax will also have Bekah Kraut, Kori Goodwin, Andra Hamtion and Brooklyn Schmidt on the varsity. Schmidt is a junior who has returned to the team after being out of the hoops fun for the past two years.

Scout Cai, a freshman, can be expected to crack the varsity lineup.

Coach Baerlocher said Reardan, the defending champions, and Northwest Christian, the team that stopped Colfax last year, figure to be the power teams in the league run this year.

Fans who need a reminder of Reardan's hoop lineup can get a quick reminder by checking over the Indians' lineup on their volleyball team which stopped Colfax last week at Yakima. Kelsey Moos, Katy Burge, and Chantel Heath will all be back in the circuit this year as seniors.

Travis Cocking will be assistant coach for the Bulldogs this year, and Tom Fowler will also assist.
