Last eights' playoff ticket on table tonight at Palouse

A battle between two schools with long records in eight-man state playoff action will have the last SE playoff ticket on the line tonight (Thursday) at Palouse. LaCrosse/Washtucna will make the trip across the county to battle Garfield/Palouse.

Both teams stand at 4-2 behind Liberty/Christian and Touchet, two clubs which took a toll on the county entrants in league play. Tonight’s winner will finish in third, the last slot open for the post season.

Thomas Newton of the Eagles strains for a few more yards while Nick Robertson tries to stop him in the game at St. John.

Garfield/Palouse will host after defeating Sunnyside Christian 36-22 last week at Palouse.

“We scored all 36 points in the first half, and then went flat and stale in the second half,” Viking Coach Scott Thompson commented. “We’re going to have to keep our focus all four quarters Thursday if we want to get a win over LaCrosse/Washtucna.”

Riley Hodges scored two of the Viking TDs Friday in the win over Sunnyside Christian. He totaled 147 yards.

QB Hunter Woltering hit two TD shots to Jesse Lopez, one for 22 yards and another for 32 yards. Woltering also escaped on a 54-yard TD run.

John Newhouse scored the first TD for the Knights in the first half and came back for another tally in the third quarter. QB Wyatt Hoff hit Brandon Boersma for a 12-yard TD pass for the last score of the game.

Coach Thompson credited Kevin Knauff with booking 20 tackles to lead the defense.

LaCrosse/Washtucna was hammered by undefeated Liberty Christian 78-0 to land in a tie with the Vikings. The Pats posted 64 points before halftime to put the game on a fast clock mode for the last two quarters.

Coach Jeff Nelson said the Tigercats never really got into the game on the road trip. He added they will have to focus tonight to stop the Vikings and claim the SE’s final playoff ticket.

Garfield/Palouse Vikings whoop it up after defeating Sunnyside Christian Friday night at Palouse. The Vikings will be back in action again on their home field tonight against the LW Tigercats to decide the number-three playoff ticket.

Colton Friday traveled to St. John and pegged a 68-12 runaway win over the Eagles. Nick Robertson scored five times for the Wildcats in the 68-12 game. Colton’s Jake Straughan threw for more than 350 yards with Dillon Franks catching two TD passes.

Touchet dropped Pomeroy 52-22 to lock up the number-two finish in the league race.
