‘Dog netters run off wins at Okanagon before big home run

Colfax volleyball players ran a string of eight game wins over four matches Saturday at Okanogan to defend the title they won on the same trip north last year. The Bulldogs swept their pool foes in two games each and then went up against Zillah, the number-one team from the opposite pool, to decide the tourney title.

Zillah also was stopped in two games under the tournament’s best-of-three format.

Colfax pool scores were 25-8 25-12 over Omak, 25-17 25-14 over Brewster, and 25-6 25-17 over Ephrata.

Zillah went down 25-9 and 25-19 in the title round.

The Z club landed in the title round after taking out Davenport, Okanogan and Timberlake in their pool play. They went to three games in just one of their pool matches.

Coach Sue Doering said Colfax ran the string with different players stepping up at different times to keep up the momentum.

Taylor Larsen booked eight kills on Zillah in the title game. Sidney Huber and Nicole Sheer each booked eight kills against Omak in the Bulldog opener.

Leah Heiner hit all four of her aces for the day while serving up a five string against Ephrata in the last pool game.

Amelie Bruya finished the run with 69 assists to celebrate her 18th birthday

Rachel Robinson topped the serving percent chart with a 24 for 24.

Counting the four short-match wins in the Okanogan tournament, the Bulldogs will be 7-0 today, Thursday, when they host a strong Tekoa/Oakesdale/ Rosalia team.

Saturday, Reardan and Colville will arrive with Reardan, the league dominators who topped Colfax in the state title match at the SunDome, due in the morning.

The Chiefs will be the morning foes with jayvee matches started at 8 a.m. Colville, defending champs in 1A, have been booked for a set of matches against Reardan at mid-day and then battle the Bulldogs starting at 2 p.m.
