Nighthawk champs

Action in the new volleyball season Tuesday featured a rematch of the state title showdown at Yakima last year with Tekoa/Oakesdale and Colton colliding on the Wildcats’ court. The Nighthawks, who took the state title last year, came out of an 0-2 hole to take the season opener.

They finished with a 15-9 edge in the fifth game decider.

Line score for the match was 14-25 19-025 26-24 25-14 and 15-9.

In the third pivot game, the score went to 24-24 before the Nighthawks turned it around.

Katelyn Renstrom put up 36 assists for the ‘hawks and Eden Anderson had 16 kills with four serving aces. Paige Vincent had 10 blocks for the Wildcats and Kaden Dahmen booked 15 assists. Jenna Moser had 13 kills.

The Nighthawks graduated two seniors off their 1B title team from last year.

In other action, St. John/Endicott Eagleis downed LW Tigercats in three games, 25-19 25-16 and 25-19 in a home match at St. John.

Emily Jones booked 11 kills and 10 digs for the Eagles, and Morgan Anderson had 21 assists.

Brooklyn Hostetler had two kills for the Tigercats, and Lindsey Miller had four assists.

The Eagles started with senior Gretchen Van Lith sidelined with an ankle injury, and Rachel Gfeller took over her spot.

The Eagles are booked to play at Liberty today.

Rosalia was slated to host Touchet Wednesday. Trish Hereford is coaching the Spartans this year.

Garfield/Palouse has booked their first match for Tuesday, a homer with Dayton at Palouse. Amy Heusser is coaching the Vikes again this year.
